If you only get to listen to one podcast this week, check out this one. As the author of Crossing the Chasm, a seminal book for the software business, his credentials are impeccable. In this piece he describes the software industry in the next decade, and why certain companies will continue to dominate. This reminds me so much of my last 2 years at Sage, struggling with the classic Innovator's Dilemma and not seeing the Innovator's Solution, nicely explained in this podcast by the author of those two books.

The news and how you get it

I was listening to the news on our venerable public service broadcast station (aka BBC Radio 4) and was puzzled to hear about 'US investigators clear American troops of charges' ..... mmmmmm ..... I wonder why they didn't say 'American investigators clear American troops'. It just reminds me how mindful one needs to be about how we receive our news.

It's time to choose ....

As we in the UK approach a general election, I tripped over this site which is hilarious if you ever got interested in Alistair Campbell and his involvement in the UK political game.

The first blogger ?

My current job involves two 4-hour drives a week, so of late I've started to buy audio CDs to stack in my car - if only I could connect my iPOD legally, but that is another topic. So, after a few author read novels, I tripped over the BBC's box set of Alistair Cooke's Letter from America series of broadcast readings. These show how this man was really the original modern day commentator and diarist - if only blogging existed before he died. The 5 minute snippets of commentary were orignally broadcast on Sunday mornings on BBC's Radio Four, and are captivating observations of happenings of the times, some as early as the 1940s. These 'programmes' and an old favourite -Garrison Keillor's Prairie Home Companion - make up most of my weekly recorded listening - except I consume these, not in their original form but on CD, laptop or iPOD, therefore in recorded MP3 format. What I lose however is the habitual context for the times when I would listen to them 'live' at a fixed time each week. Odd.

Blogging again ...

Things have been hectic in recent months so blogging got the back seat. The long path of progress is getting clearer, so I'm gonna give this blogging gig another go. I'm going to stick with TypePad for a while, but I sense that MSN Spaces is going to get my custom soon as MS does it tried and tested 'embrace and extend' of its platform tentacles and integrates with its other assets - I see it already is with IM, and I can see Sharepoint and Live Communication Server as obvious next steps.
